From Postcards From Google Earth
-“The images are screenshots from Google Earth. They are glitches that occur when the 2d satellite imagery and 3d terrain don’t line up quite right, or structures such as bridges get projected down onto the terrain below, creating fabulous and unintentional distortions”
Clement Valla

Doing this stuff is actually my job.  I make digital maps all day. This is caused by a bad elevation model data.  I can speak for any digital mapmaker when I say, bridges are just beyond hope in most cases for a repair/redo of the job. It sees the water as zero elevation and projects the imagery lower at zero elevation.  Mountains are also insane for accuracy. I wish I could post some stuff from my work that I have saved in my “best of” folder without getting fired.
